    Desktop Connector Issue - Opens File Explorer not Open Dialog

    Ever since the desktop connector was released we have experienced an intermittent problem: In Revit, when we want to repath a Revit link (or make link) we navigate to "This PC" and double-click the BIM 360 (desktop connector icon). This should open or spawn a File Open dialog box which would allow us to navigate to a BIM 360 project and select a file to repath. In our case, when we double-click the desktop connector icon it opens a File Explorer Window instead of the File Open dialog which means we cannot select a file location for repathing.

    I have asked our vendor about this and they stated that they have experienced the same thing intermittently and that Autodesk has no real solution except to perhaps reinstall Revit. Reinstalling Revit is a pretty heavy handed action, and since we have versions 2015-2019 installed it would be a big deal.

    Has anyone experiences this? Any solutions or ideas?

    Open the File Explorer... Drag your BIM 360 project to the desktop to create a shortcut. In Revit, when selecting files click on the shortcut you just created, it will path to the files on the BIM360 drive.

    I had to do this for our DWG links...

    Issue kind of resolved. Another user on a different forum alerted me to the fact that Desktop Connector does not play well with programs that have elevated permissions (run as administrator). I found that the launcher we use to run our Revit versions launches Revit as administrator. I tested this solution by running Revit out of the program directory (without elevated permissions) and the desktop connector worked properly.
