BIM360 Desktop Connector - does it connect to the network?

Our offices with the most BIM360 projects have been experiencing unprecedented network slowness (IO is off the charts). In the meantime, one thing that has changed in our desktop environment is the implementation of Desktop Connector. I'm hoping there is no correlation to Desktop Connector and network drive traffic.

Curious if any other firm is noticing a difference?

I'm only connected to one project...so I haven't noticed any lag. Only thing that should be updating is the modify status of the files, but only when viewed. I'd suggest running a Network Traffic Monitor App and see what is going on with your network.

Hi Michael, thank you for the reality check! Autodesk consultant advised us that Desktop Connector does not interact with the originating network drive. Next week we will run a test to verify that updating the network copy does not propagate to the Desktop Connector. My hypothesis is that if you load a RVT model into Desktop Connector and it has DWG links in it, that will cause network traffic. But how much?

I have about 8 DWG links in my model...but I am the only person in my office with a license.

We've got one BIM 360 project where only we (Arch) and the Equipment consultant are on BIM 360.
The MEP consultants send files (RVTs) on a weekly basis and we use Desktop Connector to upload them.
I've noticed a big lag time first thing in the morning.
My theory is that BIM 360 downloads the Linked files to the user's Temp folder and this can take several minutes every day.
Doesn't seem to be an issue with the rvts that live on 360
