Lightbulb Pattycake.io - Real time, web based PAT file editor/creator (in beta)

Hi Everyone, Long time lurker -- I'd like to share a web-based app a friend and I have been developing.

tl;dr : Pattycake is a real time web based PAT file editor allowing viewing and creating/editing of PAT files. EASILY create and edit PAT files such as herringbone with just a couple clicks.

    Visit us here: www.pattycake.io
    Registration Code:
    vanillaextract18

Use the registration code to sign up for a free account which gives you lots of additional features like 'hybrid' viewing. Turning on ‘Pattycake Pro’ opens up even more features and gives access to some parts of the site that are part of ‘Pattycake Pro’ only - currently Pattycake Pro is completely free! These features are currently still in development and being added to regularly.

To enable Pattycake Pro features, once logged in:

    1. Go to your account settings page. (drop down near your name)
    2. Find the “Pattycake Pro” section
    3. “Enable” Pattycake Pro!

    Detailed Explanation:

The app is called Pattycake. Its a real-time web based PAT file editor/creator. If you've ever tried creating a custom PAT file for yourself or maybe a co-worker, you know that there is some confusing things that happen with them, and sometimes the math is just confusing for things like angled line patterns. We created Pattycake to expedite these issues, along with creating the ability to store/share these PAT files with co-workers and view what a PAT file looks like (without needing a program).

Pattycake Calculators are one of the things that set us apart... these are toggle/input fields that can be used to create super quick PAT files of the most common requested files (herringbone & chevron for example). You can modify a couple of buttons, set your toggles, then download for easy input to CAD or Revit. Since we are web-based, there is also no need to manage add-ins, versions, or anything like that.

We're reaching out here to hopefully get a couple more users to kick the tires and play around. We're very much in development still and are looking for feedback on pattern requests, bugs, and anything in between. Please reply here for questions/information, i'll respond as soon as I can --- Or you can also reach us at hi@pattycake.io.

    Thanks for reading! - Kyle

Hey, this is a great idea!

how do I use it though? do I have to create the X Y Z coordinates and spaces for ever line in the pattern?
is it possible to draw the pattern somewhere and then create it from that?

    thank you !

    Hey @snuffy!

    Thanks for the interest!

tl;dr: Heres a quick little gif of Pattycake in use: https://i.imgur.com/mdWb0hJ.mp4

Couple of different ways you can use it:
If you have PAT files you want to edit, you can either upload it or copy and paste the text directly into the editor. You can then modify the values and see them update in real time. This is only super useful if you understand slightly what the values are controlling.

This is similar to how its had to be done in the past... but we added the real time - Previously you'd have to make changes then re-upload to a CAD program to see changes. Here is a quick blog post about the values and what they control : https://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppo...ram-excel.html

Additionally with the 'hybrid view' you can duplicate rows, make lines bold, and turn them off to isolate lines. This helps you figure out which line is controlled by what value to troubleshoot and customize better.

The best way - The calculators (see GIF):
We currently have 16 calculators which essentially have fields where you specify the constraints you want. For example: You'll say you want a 12" wide by 4" tall brick offset 50%, and the calculator will adjust all the values for you automatically. This is especially neat for the herringbone where it will do the math automatically for you. The usefulness extends to similar patterns, for example, the calculator for brick could also be used for floor tile. We are adding to these calculators regularly.

For drawings in the program or somewhere else and loading it in:
You spying on us?! We are actually in the very early stages of testing out drawing in the web interface and then having that automatically create the PAT file. We also have an internal alpha for a DXF uploader that is still getting some major bugs worked out on it - for this, you would download an autoCAD template, then save as a DXF and upload. Hopefully will be releasing these very soon.

Let me know if i can be more help!

@snuffy and @everyone - An Update... we are happy to announce that the DXF to PAT generator is in Alpha and has been released for you!

Check out a GIF of it in action here: https://i.imgur.com/EbUqHOW.gifv

You should get amazing results with any square grid patterns (1:1) and nicely rounded grid sizes (2:1 square sizes for example). Included is a graphic representation and immediate feedback of problem lines and issues. We also round/adjust the lines to be the most accurate they possibly can be for the specific programs PAT rules!

Its in alpha... so we're still working out some kinks... but we are super excited about this and wanted to share it ASAP. Remember, with Pattycake - no plugins, versions, updates... or any other similar nonsense needed.

Let us know how you all like it! Note: This is a Pattycake Pro only feature (which is free at the moment). So check out the first post for the sign-up code and enable Pattycake Pro when logged in, you'll get free access to the DXF Generator then
