    The state of kiwi browser

As a new user I've been googling around for more info on Kiwi browser but it doesn't seem as if it is a current topic anywhere, and their web site blog hasn't been updated for a couple of years. All tutorial videos are based on previous versions that are very different from the current version. Is this still the goto product for family management? I'm unfortunately having all sorts of issues.

I'm receiving very sporadic response from the developer, and many of my problems are likely beginner related, but there is no proper manual. I have set it up to a point where it works, and as such is very useful, but I can't seem to get any updating of newly added families to occur without restarting Revit. Which may be the way it is supposed to work, I just don't know. Folders can be set up as 'live' but this doesn't happen. Many operations generates errors. I can't even install the latest version, it asks if I want to modify or repair, but nothing happens in either choice.

Anyone else out there using it that can share a few pointers?

I dont use it myself, but from what I hear it is indeed the goto app for family management. Don't think there is much else out there either

I've been using Kiwicodes Family Browser for several years now.

If I add a family to a folder that is connected, Family Browser sees it without restarting Revit.
I just need to select a different tab, then back onto the tab that points to the folder where the new family is.

And I've had no problems installing new versions either.

It's odd that no one seems to discuss it, can't find anything on google that is less than 3-4 years old, and the program seems to have changed since then.

    Ah, awesome, a user!

Chris, in my about window it says I have version 2017.3.14.487 installed and that newest available is 2017.9.7.511. However, if I download the latest I get a modify, repair or de-install dialogue, which to me either indicates I already have the latest version installed or that it can't upgrade what I have. Have you seen this issue?

I have the latest installed, and had no issues with the installation of it.

So I'm not much help to you unfortunately.

Could it be that for some reason your install is broken or this update needs a de-install of the old software before it can install the new? I'd say just de-install and install the new version.

I actually did de-install it and the installed the one I downloaded as the latest, but after a successful install it says the same thing. My installed version is 2017.3... something and that there is a newer available. If it wasn't for it seemingly working for Chris I would almost suspect that the latest version by mistake still reports itself with a previous version number.

I've tried installing as admin and that makes no difference.

    Hi nicincad.

I'm the developer of Kiwicodes Family Browser. Sorry you are having issues setting up Family Browser.

You are indeed running an old build of the new R2 Family Browser and I would 100% suggest that you do upgrade to the latest build which could well solve your issues. Normally you can just run the new installer right over the old install, but on the odd occasion this can fail for some reason.

The best tool I have found to do a clean remove of windows programs is Microsoft Fixit.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...led-or-removed

Download and uninstall to old build of Family Browser.

Let me know how you get on with that.

    Regards

    Phillip Miller
