    Subcategory renaming add-in out there?

I was wondering if there is an Add-In available that will rename subcategories in families? I know the task is a bit open ended because the API probably needs to know the subcategory names in advance, but just suppose that you had a library of stuff that was built to an old subcategory naming convention, and you want to update it.
I would like to be able to run a batch update of multiple families where you can feed in a list of old/wrong/misspelt subcategories, and then associate the new/correct subcategory for each one. The API would go through each family check for the specified subcategories and change them where it found any.
    Can the API do this?

Good question. Even just removing all subcategories would be a useful tool to clean up external content before using it.
The place to start looking is the RevitAPI help file in the Revit SDK.
A quick search shows that subcategory is a property that you can get/set for extrusions and stuff, so this should be possible.
Now you just need to find a helpful programmer

A bit late but just in case you didn't find a solution- BIM Helper Tools from VV Software might do what you are after?

From what i have seen/ understand you can't completely automate subcategory naming, etc. I would love to work out a way!

If you load all your families into one project and rename the categories in the project, saveout all the families again, the new names stick.
(Doesnt work for "duplicated/typos/missspelt ones thou....)

    Thanks Alex,
Sounds like a useful little workaround - I will try that too.

    I tried your suggestion Alex,
I works pretty well, although it can be a bit laborious working through it all, especially catching all the inconsistencies. But a batch process would have similar problems with inconsistencies (unless you can program in all the known typos and variations).
At first look, the BIM Helper Tool seems like it can only add or delete subcategories, not rename them? It also has a pretty painful process to go through in order to get a trial up and running, compared to most other Add-ins.
