Unhappy Linked model set to Underlay also causes link to be Halftone.

    Why?

I am working in a project that we upgraded from 2012 to 2013. In 2012, I had filters set up to show a piece of the Architectural link (a generic model; elevated seating slabs) would show as solid linework in my sections.

    Basically,

•I left the overall Halftone of the link as unchecked. But set the link as an underlay.
•Then, I set the link to Custom and I took every model element in the Architectural link except Generic Models and set them to halftone.
•Then created filters to grab the specific generic models I wanted on and turned all the others off.
•Then I created a view template that I could re-use on other, similar sections.

In 2013, the Underlay feature seems to have an additional "feature" that is unwanted. When I set the Architectural link to Underlay, it does send the file under my structural model, but it also makes the underlay HALFTONE! So, I cannot get that piece of generic model to show solid. Why have the additional Halftone checkbox if the Underlay is going to do that anyway?

I also tried with a new 2013 project template, linking the same Architectural model and cutting the same section. When I set the link to underlay, it turns halftone, too! Also, tried changing from Structural to Coordination with no change.

Can you set GM to solid in Object Styles?

Looks like the Object Style for Generic Models is already set to Solid.

What about the Display Model setting?

What if you change the link to not be an Underlay, (to make the halftone go away), then use Custom Settings in the Link and set GM to solid and everything else halftone, then create/apply as a VT?

It may come to that... along with hiding the architectural items that are (on top of) my structural items.

I'm curious, though, why Autodesk would change the underlay to have a halftone feature, when there is clearly a separate halftone checkbox.

It seems I may have been mistaken.

I got a message from someone at Autodesk who said that the Underlay feature has always made the link halftone. I checked in my old RST2012 file and see that the view that I thought I had set to underlay is actually not (so I could keep the generic model linework solid.)

Well, I hope this discussion has helped someone else but me. I'm a little disappointed that I cannot get that piece of the architectural link to show the way I want without having to hide a bunch of items that now show on top of my other Structural items.

Since there is already a "Halftone" button for links, I may need to add to the wishlist that underlay should not make the link halftone.

Leanne, this feature can be acheived now.

Manage Tab > Additional Settings > Halftone / Underlay > uncheck "Apply Halftone"
