    Column Base Plates

    Hello All

I am trying to create a column base plate using the extensions addon, I have a hss column on a pier, when I select the column and then steel connections under the extensions pull down, then I selected column base.

I recieve the following error, I don't seem to have a problem when selecting an w column

    "The column section is incorrect"

Can someone tell me why this would happen?

I tried to add a base plate using the component method but i couldn't seem to get the plate to go to the bottom of the column.

    thanks in advance

You say you are using an addon... What addon? Have you talked with the developer of the addon

Is the pier a column or a foundation family?

Are the pier and column associated to eachother?

obviously the word "addon" was a poor choice of words.

    lets start again shall we.

so i know what i need to do on my project, i started a simple project with some columns and spread footing, I want to add a base plate to an hss column. so i selected the column and went to the extensions tab, steel connections, column base, after a short bit I receive the following error message.

    "The column section is incorrect"

Apparently it does not seem to be a problem if I use a W column

I was able to get the add componet method after realizing that the family i downloaded was labelled incorrectly but it is not what I want to do.

what I want to do is to create the base plate types I need and "insert or add them to a column I have" (would like to model this for a particular drawing I need to do but if revit is limited in this aspect then i will have to make the component method work for now.

The only thing i know of for the pier was to use a concrete column, never the less, if it doesn't work on an entirely new project with a column on a footing, then either the software has its limits in this area or i am missing something.

I just tried... I have the same error. Need to log the issue with Autodesk through your subscription support.

Did you set the correct Location in Extensions options?

I've had similar experience with the 'limits' placed on Revit Extensions. As an example I can't export a footing to ASD using Revit Extensions unless it has a column attached to it. Maybe Autodesk need to relax their limits a little.

From memory the Steel Connection extentions don't work on hollow sections - only on UB's.
