Cool Customize tunnel structural element (new customized family) & analytical properties

    Hello, everyone. I am Nan

I have created one new generic family model(see attachment figure 1) in Revit 2019 and I want to calculate it in SOFISTIK. Thus, in Revit I need the analytical model (3D View in Revit) with clear nodes and lines. So that I can add loads and boundary conditions on the model.

However, I cannot see the nodes and lines in the analytical model(see figure 1, to make a comparison, I created one wall structural family beside and you can see the nodes and lines clearly). That means I cannot add boundary conditions and loads on the customized generic model. I would like to know, how can I make the new created generic family available to calculation.

Is there a way to add the analytical nodes and lines in the new created family?

Actually the new generic family is a part of the tunnel model(see figure 2). To model the tunnel structure, I cannot use the wall or beam family in Revit 2019 to do simulate the whole tunnel. Thus, create a user defined family, not only from the Revit structure family template(wall, beam, brace, etc.), is very important.

Thanks in advance for your help in advance and I do hope there is a way to deal with the problem.

    Nan

I don't know if you want the round tunnel to be analytic? Thats not possible in Revit.

For your first picture i would use walls and floors to model that, instead of a generic model.

    Hello, Jansen

Thanks for the reply. For the design of tunnel structure, we really need to create our own generic model. Because the walls and floors can not accurately simulate the tunnel structure, especially for some details. If we want to change the parameters in Dynamo in the future, the wall and floor(in Structure) cannot be changed by using Dynamo. This is very inconvenient if we cannot calculate the generic model from ourselves.

btw, do you know if it is possible to what the code by myself to make some specific revit generic family possible to be analytical?

    Best wishes

    Nan

I haven't really searched for it but i have never seen a generic model with analytics in it.
You can add model lines to your generic model and put them analytic, but they won't export to another program.

I did a big project where we needed to export Revit models to SCIA and we did a lot of worrkarounds to make the structure. analytical correct so the structural engineer didn't need a lot of time to fix the model in SCIA.

But in the end some things just don't wanna be analytical in Revit and the structural engineer needs to model the analytical part in his own software.

Hi Nan, Did you take a look at the Sofistik AutoCAD integration? We Use that for more complex bridge analyses.

    Hello, Hans

    Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I know Sofistik and AutoCAD integration and I have tried that before. But to make the BIM workflow more convenient, I need to calculate the Revit model, which means calculate the model from designers directly. That is my purpose.

    Hello, Jansen

Thanks for the suggestion. Could you please tell me more clearly how to add model nodes and lines to the generic model?

Nodes are impossible to draw in a generic model, but lines can be done.
