To clarify (for Harnta): material (parameter) tieing is entirely possible, parent-to-child.
Profile without only with and height is possible with shared parameters.

If you share de parent family with children I look into it this weekend. I think you need to contect the dimension of de beams en columns into the parent so every different beam en columns has his parameters (so you get a lot off them) and they have to be shared parameters. (Else they do not show in the schedules)

Good luck to you I hope to see a nice family.

I still don´t get it. Now I have made a material parameter and a shared parameter called L. If I load this column into a Project I still don´t get the length when Schedule, but I can get the length with my own shared parameter L. What am I missing?

    Text Parameter Properties.

Family parameter (Cannot appear in schedules or tags)
Shared parameter (Can be shared by multiple project and families, exported to ODBC., and appear in schedules and tags)

It is the revit way to get it. I think you need to add a lot of parameters....
