How to change Floor family to generic model

How can you change a Floor family to a generic model?
There are multiple components so preferably not one by one.
Is there perhaps an external tool or coding via dynamo?

    Many thanks for your help.

    1. If its a system family you can't.
    2. If its a model in place family just edit it and change the category.

    Many thanks for the response.
Are there any other tools / software available to adjust this, outside of Revit?

If the (system family) floors are all rectangular you could use Ideate BIMLink to export the floor instances (and the bounding box coordinates) and then use that information to create rectangular generic model families in the same locations, though I'm not sure how acceptable those results would be, and unless you are talking about 50+ floors it's probably not worth the effort because you'd first have to create a custom generic model family.

What's the problem you are trying to solve?

ALWAYS the best question to ask first.

I used a Floor family to make a 3D space reservation for clarity and clash detection purposes. Now the clash detection is finished and we want to make the space reservation into a generic model. The floor spaces are not rectangular (unfortunately) and there are over 50 of these elements.

There's plenty of ways you could get there with differing levels of model performance. MIP extrusions or a flexible family or Dynamo or....can depend on your situation and the shape of your geometry. Any sloped or curved surfaces? How accurate does it need to be? Screen shots help.

I've found (arch) system families perform better than loaded components, dollar for dollar, and do you really want to model something twice? So, is there a specific reason they need to be changed to generic models or can it be dealt with using existing floor category geometry?
