    Ladder Family (array trouble)

My ladder family is going OK but I'm having trouble with the array command. I want to array the Hoops of the cage at a fixed distance of 4'-0" c/c. the number of hoops required would be parametrically determined. I can't wrap my head on how to make the array command to work...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Are you having problems with the constraints, or the actual array tool? Is the first hoop supposed to be different from the others? Did you do array to last or array to second? It looks like you are trying to control the spacing with reference planes? I haven't gotten that to work, and that is the one place I dimension between model elements. You also need to keep the array from going to 0. I'd probably make the hoop as a family that is nested in, then have one that is visible if the desired number of rings =1, one that is arrayed to second with the spacing constrained and a formula to keep the count from being less than 2.

Have you looked at the cage ladder in the OOTB library? It's wall hosted and missing the check parameters that JMK mentioned, but it might be good to take a look at and try to reverse engineer. I typically create a reference plan for the first object, and one for either the second or last object depending on the array type, and then lock my elements to those. I always use a nested family for the arrayed element as well, just because it's easier to have that origin point to control them with.

Chris.Marko remark is right... the out of the box family is of great interest to me... For jmk, yes the first hoop is different than the other (it's larger), the array is for the second hoop (which is nested family). I'm going to try to dimension between the array element as mentionned (I guess thats how you control the spacing)...

I've almost complete my generic model ladder (no need for a hosted wall)... Thanks to all for helping me on my quest... Please find it attach for your review/pleasure...
