Movable Label Annotation in a Detail Item Family

    Hi there,

I am trying to create a detail item family where i can have a label annotation constrained to the center of the detail item but movable if need be.
Almost exactly like the standard Revit dimension tool. I want to be able to drag the label around where i want.

Attached are a couple of pictures to help understand what i mean.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,
    Sam

You can't make it dragable just like Revit's dimension tool, but you can get pretty close using a nested label and offset parameters. Make the label you want to be able to move as a separate generic annotation that is centered on its reference plane. Nest it into your detail item family and attach it to reference planes that are controlled by your offsets in whichever direction(s) you need.

you could load your custom dimension arrow heads and create your own type of dimension, then override the dimension text by double clicking on the text to be what you want and it will work as you want... I think

An addition to jmk post, you might also try not to nest the label but instead use a reference plan and group it with the label you want it to move. Now you can use the offset parameter to move the reference plane and it will move the label too since they are grouped.
