Revit 2017.2 Rendering finishes but I cant close the dialog box

twice now I've ran a rendering, walked away, it finishes but I can't do anything. I'm sure a dialog box is open somewhere but I can't see it or click it, so I'm stuck and have to close revit. Any ideas?

Whenever a dialog box disappears to the point I can't access the main Revit interface to save or close it, I just try to sign out (or shutdown) Windows. By doing that, Windows will pop up a message saying that other software are still open and offer you to hit cancel to cancel the sign out or shutdown. Usually that triggers all "hidden" dialog boxes to pop up too allowing you to get back to work.

Be aware that if the Revit file was fully saved just before this happens there's no need for Windows pop up a message saying that you have open and unsaved files and therefore it will just sign out or shutdown without bringing the hidden dialog boxes. But then, hey, it was all saved regardless.
