Nested Structural framing doesn't allow control of length

I'm have built a complicated Precast Concrete Riser that Has a Horizontal Tread and a Vertical Stem and Drop Stem. I am trying to nest this Family into another so that I can stack the 2 pieces with the end result resembling Stairs. When I nest the families I'm getting things to work great except I can't get the length to flex, or the extensions to work. The constraints won't stick and flex. Any Ideas how to get this to work? The nested family took at least 40hrs to build so I can't really start from scratch.

This is a known Revit flaw, in the family enviropment constraints do not work with beams, based on special structural frame template (assuming you use them).
I'm afraid you have to create a new generic model based stem family.

It’s better to attach your family to get right help faster.
