    difference between graphics and visibility

    hello

what is the difference wetween these 2 parameters and what the limits of each type? why usin one type btter than the other?

Are you referring to where to group the parameter under when building a family? It's just a way to structure the parameters of a family to keep things organized, so the question I'd be asking is where would I look for this?. I'd use visibility.

    Hi
I don't understand what you mean by "a way to structure the parameters of a family"
In my case, I only want to hide some objects in the family

So what "group" you use, doesn't matter too much. In the image I have a parameter under graphics and I have one under visibility. Is that what you were referring to in the original question?

If yes, then I'd use visibility.

I think I have used graphics when I need to have a detail item in a family (so 2D info) where I need to change it's visibility and I use visibility for 3D objects. But I am not a 100% sure I have done that for all of them. Good idea to check that for consistency.

But you could indeed use any category for any type of parameter, it is just a way for you (and your company) to group them so people know where to look for them.

Does visibility get buried towards the bottom once you have a few other parameter groups involved? I've always leaned towards graphics for organising the on/off stuff and I think it was mainly just so it was near the top. Especially when they're instance based, it was easier for most people in the office to select the family and then right near the top of properties browser have all their check boxes for turning things on and off. I'm that used to doing it out of habit that I'd forgotten all about the visibility section. Now that you bring it up I'm really not sure what the distinction is supposed to be.

I think it does get buried at the bottom, because the groups are alphabetically and the parameter inside the groups you can change the order of. So that is indeed something you might wanna take into account.

    V2017.2, groups are not alphabetical.

#01 is the first group, then I worked down the list. The groupings are all over the map.
