Hidden lines showing in 3d view

Another newbie question.... I've created basically an upturned box 1.2mm thick. Near the top I have a inset panel which sits on the inside face of the material thickness. However when I zoom out I can see the line where this panel sits which is a bit of a pain as I dont want it visible. When you zoom in it disappears.... any suggestions would be welcome

It happens with face differences of a few mm.
