Annotation Symbols for Nested Families Not Visible in Project View

    Hey Guys,

I have an Electrical Fixture Family consisting of a Duplex Receptacle along with a nested Quad Receptacle and nested Data Outlet. Both of those families are shared, and show up great when loaded in the model in any elevation or 3d views. The problem is their annotation symbols won't show up in plan, only the symbol for the Duplex is visible. Is there a good way to solve this problem? I have just been running in circles trying to make the symbols show without any luck, most of my family work is trial and error and I feel like there may be a simple solution that I'm just missing.

Thanks so much, if you need any additional info/explanation just let me know.

I'm pretty sure that annotation that are already nested in a family won't show up in the project. The Annotation has to live in the family that is directly being loaded into the family.

Do not put annotations in the family. Instead, use Tags.

Thanks for the responses. I want to have 2 circuited connectors in this family, one for the live family and one for one of the nested ones. Which I've accomplished in section view. I doubt I'd be able to circuit a tag in plan view though. Is the a way to make the annotation symbols in the live family and have them correspond to the nested families?

Seems easy enough. Place the annotation over the nested family, like you did for your "Live" family. Set a visibility parameter, and off you go.

Would that placed annotation pull/transfer the circuiting information to/from the nested family? It seems like that would need more parameters than just visibility. I'll look into it though. Thanks!

You're going about this all wrong I think. I'm not saying that it's impossible to circuit nested Families, but you'll have to make those items Shared first. Don't nest them, just place them individually. That way each fixture is circuited properly and will be able to show annotations as needed.

My families are for architectural use, but I ended up doing was handling all symbology in one family and adding a type driven label parameter to the symbology family. ie - Host "Duplex" family type has the symbology family label set as "Duplex".

They are shared and circuit fine (different circuits in the nested families, when in a non-plan view where they're visible). I'm trying to make them all into a single family rather than placing individually for pre-fabrication/scheduling purposes. The only thing left is this visibility problem with the annotations in plan view, which I feel there has to be some way to work around. But I could be wrong.

Could you PM me with a little more in-depth explanation, if you have time? (no hurry) I'd really appreciate it.
