    Symbolic Lines Can't Stay Still!!

For my hangers, I just like a plain old circle with a cross hair showing up.

The visibility for the actual extrusions are set to display in 3D, front, side, but not plan view.

On my plan I only want the circle with crosshairs.

So I go into my hanger family and add in a circle and two lines. Convert to symbolic. I have not manually constrained it or anything.

However, when I switch types (which vary by rod size, hanger size, etc) these simple symbolic lines get all bent outta shape.

I did once know how to control this thing, but I can't remember.

    Can anyone comment?

looks like your lines are attached to the hanger model , so they move with it.
If you just want symbols that stay the same size I would suggest drawing them in a Detail Item and then loading that into the hanger family. This is much more stable and you can also move the symbol position in the family with length parameters or switch from one symbol to another with a Family Type parameter.

Thanks josephpeel, actually I've already moved on a sub-par solution but yes you're right. Your method is way more robust. Great post!

Now, back to the drawing board for me...I have to re-implement your approach. Lesson learned. Love this place.

    Cheers.
