    Thanks Jeffrey,

Didn't know you could bring Revit 2015 files into 3dsMax 2016 (too obvious I guess ).

I've been trawling the Area forums and someone has posted the same problem I am seeing - the 'empty FBX file' error message - which is reassuring.

There is a feeling that one of the problems at least happens with Linking Revit projects containing Linked files - I'll try mine with the Links removed for now.

On my course yesterday the trainer tried Linking in Revit 2015 demo files to 3dsMax 2016 and then again after upgrading them in Revit 2016 first - the latter was slightly more successful but still didn't appear right and was unusable.

I notice that the Support form on my Autodesk Account doesn't even list 2016 versions yet.

Here is a comparison of the same Revit 2015 project file Linked into 3dsMaxDesign2015 and 3dsMax2016 - when in wireframe view you can see the extra lines joining vertex points on surfaces, and also materials don't come across.

Hurrah , after a lot of trying different projects I managed to get a very recently created small, simple project to Link in to 3dsMax2016 - but the wireframe views show that the model is still strangely meshed.

So, when it works it works very well indeed... but no luck with other upgraded projects yet.

In fact the solution seems to be extremely simple - just export from Revit 2016 as an FBX file, then Import->Link FBX into 3dsMax 2016.

Works perfectly so far on all my projects, even those with linked Revit files and DWGs.

    Phew!

I've discovered, as have other Revit 2016 users that although FBX export linked into 3dsMax2016 works fine, any attempt to update the FBX linked file produces an empty FBX file error - it's all gone, somewhere.

Thus each change requires a new link into 3dsMax 2016, as far as I can see.

I notice there seem to be similar complaints from Autodesk Architecture and Autocad users in the Area forums.

I guess it's being looked at but it's a huge pain and time waster at the moment.

Still no sign of a fix for the file linking issues which, judging by posts on the Area forum, are afflicting not just Revit users but all users of Autodesk products expecting to link into 3dsMax 2016.

It's quite a few years since I really wished I had not upgraded to a new version (BDSP 2016) but this problem is adding so many hours to workflow between Revit and 3dsMax - having to create a new FBX export from Revit every time I update the Revit model.

Maybe Autodesk no longer sees Revit to 3dsMax as significant for rendering.

I can NOT believe this issue came back from the dead from 2013!!! TabletInputService again???
    willsud,
    try this:
Open task manager, go to the services tab, scroll down to "TableInputService" and right click on it, Stop Service. Its not just Wacom that has this issue, it's ANY touch surface. Like my Acer T2301 monitors!!
If it's like the Revit + 3dsMax issue in 2012/13 then this will be the solution. HOWEVER, you'll have to do it every time you start your computer UNLESS you change your config file to "not run service on startup".

Thanks, but my TabletInputService is always Stopped anyway.

I've not had any trouble at all with the regular, old Intuos tablets and pens, just the touch enabled models.

I am assuming that the touch tablet issue is unrelated to the inability to link 3dsMax2016 to Revit2016 projects reliably or update linked FBX projects, but you never know.

    FBX to MAX

William, I am having the same issue with my FBX to MAX link.
I have filled a support request and have not heard back at this time. There was a pre existing bug between Revit and Max prior to 2016 ( I use that link heavily) and supposively it was fixed. - Well- Its not, it's worse. The "empty" load you get in max I have found that you can just hit "load file " again, and it will appear, the only problem is now ALL the material definitions are gone. (This is between Revit 2016 and Max 2016). I can link the revit file rather than a FBX, but then there appears to be material "normal" issues with any family in Revit that was mirrorred (like a cabinet). Hopefully, some acknowledgement will occur soon.

Photos show initial start of rendered (upper right), reload with a "no model" error, reload again- you get model but no materials. last is a study of the direct Revit link, with mirrored upper cabinets. Note the banding which is perhaps a problem with normals. This are all imported into Max using link by Revit Materials.

Hi Ski.. are you really a new member - I seem to have come across you before, unless I'm imagining things (again)

Anyway, yes, pretty much what I am experiencing. Funnily enough I've just come from the Area forum where this pops up every few weeks and the only mention was some time ago a post that they were working on it.

It is surprising that this has gone so wrong after it worked not bad in 2015.
