Yes, 100% revit, Yes I use both the real lights and then a couple studio lights(invisible round lights) that light up the ceiling. No photoshop, don't even have it on my machine anymore.

The key to good renderings in revit is understanding how to make good materials, set your light levels and time of day. The mental ray engine has been good for me. Don't rely on the OOTB materials, make your own, test render them, repeat. Note for the settings, don't ever use the OOTB settings, take your Draft setting, click the copy to custom button, set antilaising to 6 or 7 and enable soft shadows and set to 2. Leave the rest alone and for most renderings they will be fast and good looking.

Do you use Gimp or something else to modify / tweak your material maps?

I suspect something in the *in-session* lighting settings. They dont travel from machine to machine...

Paint .net is what is installed on my machine. I could do a lot better with photoshop I know. I miss it. But there is a seamless texture plug in I use for paint .net that helps alot. but I do miss some photoshop tools. We have a graphic's station with photoshop, so if I can't do what I need to with paint.net I can log into it. But I rarely do. Even the archvision plug in works with paint.net so I'm a happy camper.

Its called Seamless Texture Maker. It helps you get there a little quicker. I don't use the top choice, typically the Normal+Cut Blend Average. or the bottom one. See attached image. New and very odd rendering problem-seamless.png
