    Design Options in 3Ds Max

We have a fiew design options in Revit 2015 and would like to render them in 3Ds max Design 2015.

I am pretty new to 3Ds...

I have linked the Revit model into 3Ds along with one camera view from the model. Two questions that come up are:
How can I change the design option in this camera view?
How can I import the other camera view we have set up?

Sadly, whatever is the Design Option visible in the Revit View you exported from / set in the File Link is going to be what shows up in MAX. The other options won't export, and won't be in the MAX model.

So we create export views for each Option, and then either make separate MAX files for each option (not ideal) or via the File Link we change what View it's pulling from, so it will re-define the linked MAX model off of the proper Revit Design Option (when it works, it works great; but can be slow and sometimes doesn't work).

This is why we actually don't render in MAX unless it's absolutely necessary, we render in Revit using a 3rd party Render Engine plug-in. Not ideal, either!

Would you mind to let me know what render engine plug-in you are using?

Couldn't you create a 3D view specific to each Design Option and link them 1 at a time to your Max model. The only catch is that you'd have to bind each of the options in, which would of course, cut the cord to any updates to your Revit model. But, you'd have your 3 or 4 options in the max model ready for rendering.

Or, have 3 or 4 different "live" max models.

    Camera View
    [3D] - DesignOption1
    [3D] - DesignOption2
    [3D] - DesignOption3
    [3D] - DesignOption4

You don't actually have to Bind anything! You can just go into the File Link dialog, change what View it's set to, and then Reload the model.

If you're making big changes to the model in Max, this won't work. You'd be better off with different live models in Max. But if you're just doing materials / cameras / lights, it works.

We've been getting great results with Octane Render. Even tho it's still beta it's been working great. Not good for animation in Revit, tho.

May I know that why do you think it's greater than the default mental ray? For the parameters and setting or the rendering results?

The rendering results are FAR better, and it's crazy fast. Since it's GPU-based, the more nVidia cards you throw at it the faster it gets. We built a custom rig with dual Titan GTX's, and can rendering things in seconds to minutes that would take Mental Ray hours to days.
