    3D perspective camera view has reset

    <rant>
    I've been doing some renders for a housing estate, streetscapes mostly. As placing the cameras is rarely perfect, usually in-view adjustments need to be made to get the right shot. Sometimes I want to walk down the street a bit or adjust eye elevation or pan etc. The navigation tool does all this pretty well, however today I open up the project and all the nav-wheel adjusted perspective cameras have been reset to their original placement points.
    Why is this a problem? Because I wanted to re-render a couple of views with different design options, but now I have realign my cameras. Not a major task but still a PITA, doubling up on work and my comparable design option renders won't be perfectly aligned.

    I've just tested adjusting some new perspective views where I only adjusted the camera using regular inputs (shift + mmb etc.).
    *These views are also resetting after saving, closing and reopening the file.
    *Using the walk tool, then in a plan view selecting 'show camera' shows the camera has moved. Save/reopen and the camera has been reset back to its original location.
    *Using 'show camera' in a plan view and physically dragging the camera and Revit WILL remember next time. In this way the only way to turn the view is the rotate tool, and manual input to the PB for eye and target elevation. This is so far from workable it's not funny.

    Is this a known issue? Intended behaviour? Is there a way I can 'pin' the camera after adjusting the view from inside the view?

    Create your perspective view. Inside the view use the nav wheel to adjust as desired. Duplicate the view. Save and close the project. Reopen the project and the original view has reset. The duplicate is still where you left it, ie in the new position and just where you want it.

    This is a stupidly simple workaround but it still sucks because it's forcing extra, unnecessary steps, and it doesn't help me for my previously rendered views.

    I know next to nothing about how Revit uses memory but my guess is that Revit keeps the view movements in RAM, so the rewind feature works. If this is what is happening then unfortunately for me, Revit doesn't write these changes to disk upon saving. I'm using 2014, when I get time I'll test it in Revit 2015 but I'm not holding my breathe. Until then I'm calling it a bug.

    there is a tool down by the crop region on/off button that allows you to 'save orientation and lock view' perhaps this will help. although I have never had this problem occur.

    Try using Save View, under fly-out menu on the View Cube.

    See attached screen shot.

    There should be a 'Temporary View' highlight or warning that turns on when the view is not saved. I have had the same issue with some cameras, get them looking great, then come back the next day and they are back to square one.
