Revit versus Chief Architect...Anyone with experience in both?

Hey everyone! I'm an expert Revit user that uses Revit for my BIM services company where most of my work is residential, including very high-end. Lately I've been messing around with Chief Architect (x10) since it's geared specifically towards residential. It has a lot of really nice tools and automated things that would make my life so much easier. One example is it can put a framed wall under a stair automatically, place outlets in a room automatically (even GFCI if the room is designated as a kichen), and mull together windows and doors while you custom make them in 3D or elevation view. Revit, on the other hand, seems much more geared towards commercial and really large projects, not so much for residential. Everything takes so long! I've spent hours and hours trying to make doors and other families look and function good. Then I see CA already has a HUGE selection that looks as good as mine, if not better!

I focus a lot on extreme detail in my projects, both 3D modeling and providing very detailed and good looking plan sets. Many of my clients are builders that use the 3D models to show client, so there is a reason why I focus on detailed modeling.

So, does anyone have current or previous experience with Chief Architect? If so, how do you think Revit compares to CA, specifically CA x10? Did you move from CA to Revit? I am really looking forward to hearing your opinions on this matter.

What is your experience with CA and Revit, and how do you think they compare? I would be using both Revit and CA since a couple of my clients use Revit and require collaboration, but I think I'd like to start training in CA to use on as many projects of mine as I can to make my life easier, as well as make money in less time.

The CA Library is pretty awesome too.... Not a fan of the sections (Wall and Building)though and some of the plate heights for the roof are not correct. Instead of modifying the model elements I was told to draw them in 2D at the company I worked at. The modeling capabilities are very similar to Revit, as you can select a plane to model off of. While it is highly suggested to not "Model In Place" in Revit....that is pretty much all you do with CA. To solve visibility issues you can put elements on layers just like Autocad and ArchiCAD.

It's funny though....I can tell which houses in my neighborhood were designed in CAD and those in CA, as there are some roof features in CA that are way overused here. BTW...CA HQ is a few blocks from my house...they are located here in Coeur d Alene. Used to have friends that were part of the support staff.

They both got jobs working with the local theater group.. They are so busy I don't see them gaming anymore either. Work with a building software provider or work with Ellen Travolta...take your pick.
