Best Router Settings for VPN and Revit Server 2016

I'm looking for help with my home network and how it should be set up best to work from home. We use revit server over multiple offices and I'm set up with a revit accelerator on my laptop. It worked great in 2015, however I recently started working on 2016 and have been having trouble consistently saving to the revit server. I can always reload latest, but STC will start, I'll see it go to 99%, then the progress bar clears and it looks like it should be done saving. But then it just goes non-responding for 5-10 minutes before saying, "This operation could not be completed. Please try again. If you are collaborating on a model using A360 or Revit server, check your network connection. So I wondering what I need to check on my network connection. I'm wondering if its timing out during the upload process(background sync). Or what. My upload speed isn't very high (1.2mb/sec). But I've been running this way for 3 years ok until 2016. Now the change is I just got a new router/wifi combo from brighthouse Arris TG1682G and on my old router I had to change a setting for VPN. I can't find a similar setting on this router. However, I can VPN in fine for other applications. To add more curiosity to my situation. I typically am hardwired with 1 gibabit. and tried all day to save yesterday, no luck. so just for testing, I disconnected from the hard wire and was able to save over the Wifi 5ghz connection. Could be coincidence, but I just don't even know how to start trouble shooting something like this. Any help is appreciated. If you think you can help. PM me and I'll give you my cell phone if thats easier then trying to write posts here.

    Thanks in advance.

Does 2015 still work correctly with your new router?

If you have another cable available I would start there. If you are able to connect directly to the router (and possibly modem) try a different jack on the box. At the very least it will help eliminate a hardware problem other than your NIC starting to go out.

Thanks, yes, 2015 still seems to work fine.
