Starting out on my own!!! Any Advice?

I work for a structural engineering consulting company. I started my transition from ACAD to Revit in about 2009 on my own with no training. What started off as frustration (because I knew the possibilities and capabilities of the program) has grown into an obsession of mine.

For the last two years I have been getting deep into revit. I had the luxury of being on some extremely large projects with seemingly endless budgets, and have had the time to create a ton of custom families, templates, standards, etc. for a client company when working with them on-site for a year. With this type of creation practice makes perfect and I got lots of practice.

Now I have received unsolicited offers from a handful of clients to join them as a consultant on several large projects. I am ready to go on my own.

    • I have laid the groundwork, filed my papers with the city/county/state to create an LLC.
    • I have established a partnership with some Revit Add-on software developers
    • I have created custom training guides, Bim Execution Plans, etc.

Some of my clients want me to simply do production for them, others want me to do specialized revit training.

    I am thinking of charging:
    $100/hr for production work
    $150/hr for custom training

Do you think these rates seem good? (keep in mind I work in SF Bay Area and prices are higher here than some other regions)

If you could give me one piece of advice as I am starting this venture what would it be?

I totally understand that you all are busy and any response even partial response is greatly appreciated.
