    5 years ago today...

Five years ago today, on December 7th, 2010 (at least by my time zone), the RFO website officially launched. Since then, nearly 50,000 members have come through, starting over 25,000 threads and contributing over 150,000 posts along the way. Wow, RFO has come a long way!

It was in the dark days of late November 2010 around the US Thanksgiving holiday and during the Autodesk University convention that the AUGI forums shutdown without announcement and when it reappeared a few days later, it had been wiped clean - years of posts and accumulated knowledge were gone.

After some difficult discussions on both the past and future of the relaunched AUGI forums, it became apparent that AUGI would no longer be a place for many of us. Munkholm approached several of us, including myself, Aaron Maller (Twiceroadsfool), Alfredo Medina, and Ian Kidston about launching a new Revit forum site. It took a lot of work and we spent many hours figuring it out, from both the technical side of servers and keeping backups, to the graphic design and layout, to what kind of site we wanted for ourselves.

I have to admit that in the early days, I wasn't so sure RFO would stick. I figured after AUGI sort of got back on its feet (and eventually restored the old posts) that people's original disappointment and anger with AUGI would subside and they'd just go back to what they were used to. But people kept on coming, and contributing, and now RFO is one of the most popular Revit forum support sites on the planet!

A huge pat on the back to Munkholm, the original crew, and Gordon Price who now helps run the site as an administrator, along with the whole moderating crew of Dave Jones, snowyweston, dzatto, Alex Cunningham, DaveP, mdradvies, mark b, jbenoit44, Drew, LeanneZ, JCM, gaby424, MPwuzhere, cellophane, and DanielHurtubise! (hopefully no one got left out there)

What an amazing (and cool!) gang of people I've gotten to know and now have the privilege of having as friends.

All these folks helping with the site are volunteers who spend their own time keeping this a great site for everyone who wants to come here and share their questions, answers and general knowledge of Revit!

And of course ALL the users who come here and contribute every day! You guys are what make RFO what it is!

Just wanted to give a big shout-out to RFO for five awesome years! Here's to many more!

A big thank you to Klaus Munkholm for creating this forum, and for maintaining it behind the curtains during 5 years; and a big thank you to all the people who have contributed in one way or another to make this forum what it is now.

Now that Revitforum has reached its 5th anniversary, I'd like to mark this moment in my memory as the end of my participation in this forum. This has been the most interesting place of the internet for me during the past 5 years and 1 day. A place where I have always found interesting topics to read, discussions to take part of, and challenges to solve. A place where I have been able to learn and to teach, and most importantly, a place where I have made friends.

However, I believe that our lives are made of cycles, and I feel this is the time for me to close my cycle with Revitforum, move on, and make room for others.

If somebody is interested in my professional services, please find my contact information in my profile and in my signature. I am open to challenges, ideas and new opportunities. My signature contains a link to my Linkedin profile, which provides a reference of my curriculum, skills, and experience.

If the last paragraph would be more appropriate for the Career Corner subforum, that is fine with me. Moderators, please feel free to move it if you feel that subforum is the right place for that note.

Having said that, I wish Revitforum a long life, and I wish my friends a happy Reviting.

    Salud!

Keep up the good work guys! This has always been the best revit forum in my opinion.
The level of knowledge amongst the contributors is high and theres less general content and lots of very interesting new discoveries.
This was always THE place to go to with difficult questions when I was learning to make families and templates and stuff.
    Long may it continue.

    SKØL!

Wouldn't know where I'd be today without this forum. I've personally met some wonderful people here and even made some lasting friendships because of it (Alex, Aaron and Dan, especially).

    Been an awesome five years!

I remember that week very clearly, and the weeks that followed. Very happy to be here, and to have met so many of the fantastic people on the forum, in real life!
