The fact that they are legally allowed to threaten people in the hopes that they roll over and give them what they want, at least with regards to .com, .net and .org domain names? So far as I can tell there is no legal peril in their borderline blackmail behavior.

I was told they started with AutoCAD a few years ago and have been working their way through and are now dealing with Revit too. Regarding the previous comment about AUGI, they don't have AutoCAD or Autodesk in their domain address it is AUGI.com and they do have an agreement with Autodesk to use AUGI, fwiw.
This doesn't mean they are right. Has ANY of those forums taken them to court? I don't think so... Because they WILL loose. Read the letter, if you want I can post the websites where we got our info on. They are not right. They are just telling us "you are a user forum with barely enough funds to pay the hosting bill. We have 20-or-so corporate lawyers to bankrupt you in a heartbeat. Do you really want to not listen?"
That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Congrats to everyone involved, but particularly to iru69 and mdradvies who along with Munk put in the hard work on this. Hopefully AD see some sense in being somewhat flexible and decide not to pursue us over what they view as a trademark infringement.

Re the option of some sort of licencing arrangement.

I too think this would be a bad result for us. One of our core tenants and indeed what I think of as one of our great strengths as a community is that we are totally independent and can express our views on the software without fearing any retribution or sanction. Whilst at first blush it might seem a good idea, tying us to the apron strings of mother Autodesk would not make for either a good nights sleep or a secure and strong forum.

Didn't say that they are. I see numerous posts reacting as if they are shutting down the forum or making the forum change its name. No sense getting upset by something that isn't happening.

Steve, do you know if they are doing the same to RevitCity? I don't think they can since its been around since 2003. 10 years should set a precedence that Autodesk hasn't actively protected it's trademark of Revit.
