Nope. But if you Google the term they used for the Trademark infringement it will say that this type of infringement (initial interest confusion or something, dont have the letter at hand) is commonly known as a type of infringement where the customer looking for product A visit's website R because they use metadata keywords in the search engine. After customer A lands on website R the confusion is lifted (because website R is clearly not from product A). However: this is still a form of trademark infringement.

Logically the only way to stop this type of infringement is to NOT have these keywords in your metadata.

EDIT: and "searching" is not the same as finding...

    Hi,

    This is just very disheartened.
I can’t see why Autodesk even would want to go down this path.
This forum is only about Revit users supporting other Revit users. It is well know that a product that has a good support will gain trust by its users and in the long run even market shares. You would think that Autodesk would put more time into having employees helping out on forums (or pay for hosting costs etc) like this rather than paying some lawyers trying put them down.
Can’t say that Autodesk are doing a very good job in promoting themselves here!

What about a car manufacture say Chryslers who makes Dodge – I don’t see them roaming the web and trying to shut down all the websites that have the word ‘dodge’ in them – and there are plenty of websites with the word ‘dodge’ out there selling spare parts.

So what does this mean for all blogs etc that have the name Revit in them?

Gordon, Ian & Klaus we are all behind you in this fight.

    jh

Many of the blogs are able to stay because they don't have Revit in the primary domain. Also it looks like they put in a copyright/non-affiliation statement on their pages. It would be great if we could get away with the same....but they are targeting any domain with Revit as primary. I did read that Revitcity has not been contacted as of yet.

Well, they might want to get ahead of schedule and rebrand to crappyrfas.com... (just kidding guys, but seriously: be prepared and start making noise over there!)

A lot of people are saying "we don't have any other choice."

Sure Revit controls the market now, but if they keep attacking their own customers, they won't for long. There are other companies out there getting into BIM modeling. We may be stuck begrudgingly using Revit for the next few years, but it won't be long before these alternatives present a viable competition. Perhaps some day the AIA might develop and support a BIM solution.

Even better: Open Source. Almost all software development in architecture is proprietary; it would be refreshing to see and support some alternatives. We certainly have a community already developing free families and API's. It isn't too big of a stretch to see that talent and knowledge base grow into it's own BIM solution over the next several years.

So I ran into this **** storm a few months back when Dave Fano was asked to relinquish openrevitstandards. I questioned the legal team about the use of blogspot.com. Initially they said, I had to hand it over, but after further investigation on their part and because the site was technically owned by google, they couldn't do anything. I was asked to put a statement on the blog that comments were not the views of Autodesk blah, blah etc etc. which I was happy to do. I understand why they want to protect the name, but they are biting off the hand that feeds them in my humble opinion. The revit community is a passionate bunch who are trying to move a stubborn old school Aec industry forward and this sort of negative press does nobody any good and I am surprised at Autodesk for being such silly arses. I hope all the social media noise gets back to all those Execs sat at OTC in Vegas this week. The reality is that Autodesk as a company are not growing, their market share remains the same. They need to wake up and smell the coffee, the world has changed and big corporate companies need to recognise that no longer can they control people without them kicking back on social media to give them negative press. My hope is you guys get it sorted, at the end of the day it's a five letter work, but in my view and in alignment with my blogpost it's about of level of fairness. Typically I am normally very pro Autodesk, but sometimes they do things which bites off their nose to spite their face and this is a classic example.

This is the most logical thing said so far, why not just license the use of the name for this site. Its not like they want to shut down the forum, its just the use of the name which they own and rightfully & legally own, dont forget that part. I still think its a waste of resources, but hey legal departments have to justify their existence somehow

Has anyone here approached their legal with that offer?

All the best on fighting this. I hope everyone else can stay rational and, as mentioned, it's really a rule of law issue and, unfortunately not morals. The letter was very well drafted but lawyers are employed to find holes in such things so I just hope it doesn't go further.

I'll send something off to Autodesk PR as well since it certainly doesn't come down on the side of good PR.

I read through all the posts on this thread. While what Autodesk is doing here is very disheartening, I must say that at this point it doesn't surprise me at all. Imagine if rather than spending money on attorneys to chase after us, they spent it on say, IMPROVING THE HELP SYSTEM or (insert your ridiculous wish list item here) in the software that shall not be named.

Let's not forget what caused this website to be created in the first place (no offense to the people at AUGI who did redeem themselves after some period of time), but whatever it ends up being called will not materially affect how I feel about participating here. Autodesk should know, however, that whatever happens from here on out does affect how I feel about them and their approach to dealing with customers.
