Model bolts

    Model bolts

    I'm trying to model some steel connections and base plates.
    I can't seem to find bolts to put in my model, only components for detail views.
    Is this an add on or I just can't find them.

    I do not think they exist. Most bolts are just modeled in detail not in 3D. If you need them in 3D I would just create a new family.

      Welcome to the forum.

      RST dose not ship with 3D bolt families. You can find a modified OOTB bolt family here, Bolt Family It should work a lot better then the OOTB family.

      I would recomend considering the ideas of modeling bolts in your project as well. What are the benifits? How do you detail? How much work will it be?

        Thanks, thats what i was afraid of, my skills are not quite there yet for creating that family.

            if you have a specific manufacturer that you're using, you *might* get lucky if they have a downloadable .rfa file. I didn't have any luck with Hilti. But, there was a clevis and turnbuckle that I was able to get from the internet as a .sat file from Cleveland City Forge.

              BOLT.rfa

              I have attached a Model Bolt family I created at a previous company, it is a metric bolt, with sizes.

              M10
              M12
              M16
              M20
              M24

              It is a face based family, with parameters to control the bolt length, space between nut face and bolt face, among others.

              You may be able to use this family as it is, or may be able to edit the family to suit your needs.

                There are benefits to modelling connections rather than using 2D components, I don't see it as been anymore time consuming than 2D, and the visual aspect of providing 3D views are excellent.

                    Excellent. With the release of Revit St 2012 not that far away, the 3D detailing capabilities will only improve :-)
