I wear USB headphones with hard rock & roll playing all day and have never heard a sound from Revit either

Some angry IT guy has programmed in some sounds into his company's Revit deployment?

That gives me a good idea though... anytime someone tries to open the central file without detaching, it will automatically turn the volume to max, disable the headphone jack, and play a Britney Spears tune. Bet that wouldn't happen more than once.

LOL - Maybe Aaron could use that for import cad and purge commands too

There are some sounds, when there are errors. For example, recently, I was in a class teaching how to place isolated footings. When I was explaining how to set up View Range for a foundation plan, I was hearing some "beep-beep" as some students were already trying to place isolated footings before I finish my explanation; therefore they were getting that error message about "None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan..."

                Step #1: Install Windows
Step #2: Turn off sounds. All sounds.

Cause Microsoft's noises are retarded. And everyone else's noises are just as bad.

Step #3: Change the bloody background! Windows 7 is better than Tellitubby Land from XP, but lord that default background is ugly.

I know a few IT guys who still build machines without sound cards. The occassional noises from Revit are really annoying when its the Atari-esque noise a box makes when it has no Sound Control device installed.

That system beep (i.e. that Atari-esque noise) that sometimes is heard even when all the "sounds" are muted can be disabled in Windows.

The easiest way that I know of is to go into the System's Device properties, turn on "Show Hidden Devices", and turn off the "Beep" device under non-plug & play drivers. (YMMV depending on version of Windows)
