Admin consoles not available after installing Revit Server 2013 w/ Revit Server 2012

    Admin consoles not available after installing Revit Server 2013 w/ Revit Server 2012

    Everything was fine with my Virtual Machine running Revit Server 2012. I could access the Admin Console, and Connect to RCS through Revit at a workstation. I then installed Revit Server 2013 Rebooted the Server. I can access the Server in both Revit 2012 and 2013 but I can not access the "RevitServerAdmin" or "RevitServerAdmin2013" console for either Revit Server 2012 or Revit Server 2013. I even tried uninstalling silverlight and re-installing it. no go.

    Any Ideas?

    Make sure that the setting are correct in IIS manager. This has happened to a few of our 2012 servers recently. I suspect that it was from a windows update for ours. The important setting are for 'Authentication'. At the top level in IIS manager, anonymous in enabled and everything else is disabled. Every site below inherits those same settings from the 'default web site' EXCEPT for RevitServerAdmin. There you should see basic and windows enabled and everything else disabled. If you do find this to be the case you may still need to reboot the server after correcting the settings!

      Also check that the RSN.ini file is correct. I have seen RSAdmin not display any projects or allow tools to work until RSN.ini is correct.

        What is the error message? I encountered the issue, that Revit Server Administrator was unavailable....

        Autodesk came back with the solution, which required:

        run the aspnet_regiis command from the .NET Framework folder.

        Go to this folder at the elevated DOS Command prompt.
        "CD C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319" , and then run the “aspnet_regiis –I” command.

          Watch out for Windows Update installing .net 4.5; apparently RS will not run correctly and uses .net 4.0; as I recall.

            For the record, Windows Update should be disabled or set to manual on production servers. Until an update is tested for your environment, or unless it is vital to correct a current issue, you probably don't need it.

            Or in laymen's terms... if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it (or you might end up having to fix it!).

                  hello! any other solutions from Autodesk regarding this problem? The elevated DOS command prompt solution didn't work for me. Please help.

                  I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2.

                    One question. Did you preform a server upgrade or did you install on a fresh formatted hard drive? I too have has issues with the Admin Console not being available. In my research and testing the only thing that would fix the problem is a fresh install of the Server OS on a blank hard drive on the machine. Sucks... but.... might be worth a try.

                    Seems that if you upgrade the machine from a previous OS there is crap that gets left behind that interferes with IIS.
