I have to decrease the width of a gym by 6'-0" that has other rooms connected to a common wall. When I attempt to move all of the elements, I get an error message stating that some elements are restricted to moving in one direction while others are restricted to moving in a conflicted direction. Is there anyway to work around this so that I can shift multiple rooms and elements by the 6'-0" dimension?

Cutting/pasting will blow away any dimensions, tags, etc... Unless you're in SD or early DD that's a last resort.
It sounds like one or more of the elements you are selecting can only move in a perpendicular direction from how you're trying to move it. I'd just start moving things one piece at a time until something threw up the constraints message.

Try expanding the error dialogue box, copy the element ID's to notepad (or something like that) and do a search by ID to see what's going on. Could be you constrained some stuff throughout the building. If this doesn't work, try to cut to clipboard, paste aligned and then move to remove the constraints.Martijn de Riet
