Loading a family from Structural, Framing, Truss Systems category?

    Loading a family from Structural, Framing, Truss Systems category?

    Hi,

    Does anyone know how to load a family from the UK metric system, under Structural, Framing, Truss Systems? I opened the family, and created my own truss which I would like to now insert into my building.

    Either:

    1. Go to the structure tab in the ribbon and select Truss from the structure panel. Then Load Family.
    2. Go to the Insert tab in the ribbon, and then Load Family.
    3. Open your truss family while the project is open, and hit Load Into Project.

      Debbie tied that - but got an error message that it could not be loaded.

      In the end we figured out that the truss had to be loaded as a beam (??) - even though it was built using an OOTB truss as a starting point?

      What I'd like to know is what defines which "catergory" (?) of family something becomes [hoping someone understands what I'm asking]?

        That's why I usually load with method 2, the insert tab. Then, it doesn't matter what the category is because you aren't already in a command.

        Open the family, and, in the Home tab, Properties panel, select Family Categories and Parameters. It's an icon with a little yellow folder at the bottom right. That's where you pick what category the family is.

          Bryan,

          I am guessing the error message you got was stating that it could not load because your project had a family of a different category and the same name already loaded in your project. I am not sure how this could happen if you used a truss family. You might of used the "Structural Framing - Complex and Trusses.rft" Truss families cannot switch categories....
          Dan is correct, while in the family editor you will see in the ribbon on the home tab, in the top left the icon that shows a yellow folder. That icon will open the Family Category and Parameters window. There are several key parameters in this window, don’t overlook it when experiencing problems.
