Although I understand the ban on sollicitations (I'm guessing you don't want to turn into a monsterboard clone), but this seems kind of harsh. Isn't there a middle way? I for one wouldn't mind if one of the contributors to this site would want to let people know he/she is available.

Thanks for your feedback! What would be an example?

If you're example would be a Revit support consultant, they could have that info in their signature. If they contribute to the forum a lot, people will see it. Does that kind of meet the "goal" from everyone's perspective?

Or would you like a list of available Revit support consultants/resellers, broken down by country/region/city (or service over the web)?

No, not that. I was thinking more along the lines of:
"Hi, I´m Martijn. Bored out of my mind on my current job | my firm is going down the drain | my clients can't afford my excessive skills anymore, so I'm currently looking for a new position. Anybody who has (heard of) an opening somewhere please give me a PM."

It may be me not being a native speaker (or should I say reader) but the way I read it this is forbidden too?

Ahh, yeah, job postings (both offering and seeking) are prohibited at this time. It's not that we're against it in theory (in fact, it might be a good way to increase traffic on the site), it's just that it's going to take time and effort to implement it in a way that doesn't infringe on the original "purpose" of the forum... and we're just trying to get some of the basic stuff settled (like what happened this past week with the web host).

My guess is that, if there's enough interest, we might eventually have something like that, so feel free to make suggestions on how that might work, but I wouldn't expect anything in the super near future. I think we would need to find a volunteer who would be willing to moderate that space, i.e. review each posting, etc.

            So, what's "solicitation" then?

At the present time, RFO does not allow solicitations for employment.

The term soliciting refers to: "for a common ********** to loiter or solicit in a street or public place for the purpose of prostitution"

I just LOVE the English language How about you ?

So, I can't go around Private Messaging every member of this forum that I would go down on his content for a few bucks? Damn, just spent a few hours on typing the perfect pick-up line...

Martijn, after further consideration, the admins are reviewing that "rule". We'll provide a status update soon.

LOL, well, unfortunately, that wikipedia article is one of those instances where it's quite misleading because it's only discussed in the "criminal" sense of the legal system (at least here in the U.S.). If you look at the "Discussion" page there's some discussion about the problem of that article. If you look up the definition of the word in a U.S. dictionary, it's more like this:
to seek for (something) by entreaty, earnest or respectful request, formal application, etc.: He solicited aid from the minister.

It is often used when referring to prostitution, but that's not a primary definition in the U.S.

That being said, if the word is only used in the "criminal" sense outside of the U.S., then we better use a different word.

yep..."would you like to go play golf?" is also a solicitation in the USA

I'd like to offer my opinion about solicitation being allowed in this forum: I don't think it should be allowed. There are other places that this can be accomplished. Also, anyone with any creative bones in their body can figure out a sig to take care of getting any message desired across here.
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!
