    Upgrading from 2011 to 2012

Just a quick checkup on things I need to watch out for when upgrading from Revit Arch 2011 - 2012.

I have so far, the list below as things to consider:

    1. Compatibility between 2011 and 2012, no going back once switched to 2012.
    2. Compatibility with other consulatants in the project team - need to check who is on what version and who will / will not be upgrading.
    3. Familiy uprgrades - As Aaron suggested, I will keep a copy of the families in each version. So I will keep a 2011 set, and then copy and migrate a set over to 2012.
    4. Learning curve from 2011 to 2012.. Is there one, and how much of an impact will it make..?
    5. New template file from fresh for 2012, or copy old one over and migrate it..?

So I suppose thats a list with 2 questions... If anyone can add to the list or answer the questions ( 4 & 5 ) it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andy

    Hi Andy.

You got 1-3 just right IMO.

    4. is not much of an issue, since only a couple of new features was added to 2012. See the list here: New in Revit 2012 - WikiHelp

    5. Depends... If you have tons of spare time, go ahead and create it from scratch. If not, you should be just fine with upgrading the 2011 template.

Can't think of anything else... Besides - Why haven't you upgraded before now? 2013 is on our door steps in just a few months

Well... We are dealing with a large firm of contractors who tend to drive these projects. One of their other consultants was refusing to upgrade to 2012 until they had soak tested it. This was a while ago thou, back in june last year. So I applied a little bit of pressure to contractors to chase their consultant up.. Seems they are happy to switch now..!

And thats where we are now.. Soon to be behind another release and doing the same thing when 2013 comes out..!!
