    Navisworks browser plugin

    Just sharing this with you: http://www.aec-area.co.uk/NW/NW-Demo.htm
    It's one great free navisworks addon to show models in your internet browser or in office documents.
    In Holland no-one seems to know this exists (not even the NW-guy from Autodesk) since Autodesk isn't doing anything with this. Since I'm the only dutch guy around here (I hope) I thought it wouldn't hurt my business sharing this with you...

    Thanks for sharing. There doesn't seem to be much information on Navisworks in general and it's nice to find a bit here and there.

    This maybe useful, I will have to test it's functionality to see if it is feasible. However, since Navisworks Freedom is essentially the same thing without an internet host it may be why they aren't doing anything with it. It might be useful for a few weeks until I get the software installed on everyone's computer.

    Do you know if Freedom is lightweight enough for older computers? Otherwise this might be the only option for remote locations with slow computers.

    Thanks again

      Actually, I use this to communicate with my clients. They can walk around in the design and get a complete understanding of it without having to download and/or install a viewer. Also, it's great for advertisement in the real estate sector.

      As for Freedom: like all autodesk viewers the program itself is quite large (they just can't seem to get a decent viewer in a decent size) but the NW files are tiny. So it shouldn't be much of a problem.

          Well you aren't the only dutch guy around here. Also you aren't the only dutch guy who know about it. We have it running for a while on our webserver. But I have to admit we don't use it very intensively. Only on a few projects.

            Go figure... Why don't you use it more often then? It's a great trick!
            There are some backdrafs though: I seem to remember RAC2010 exported rendermaterials to NW, as long as they were native materials. But this link is broken in 2011. So now I have to redo all materials in NW. Which off cours sucks big time!

              ActiveX with 2012

              First, thanks for this thread. It made my life a lot easier.

              Just an FYI, building off another similar thread if you want to use the existing example with 2012 update line 848 <ObjectID= with this

              <OBJECT ID="NWControl01" CLASSID="CLSID:C72142DB-2D3B-4051-A74F-06C43FE27241" CODEBASE="Navisworks ActiveX Redistributable x86 Setup.exe" TEXT="Navisworks ActiveX Control Downloading">

              Then copy the Navisworks ActiveX Redistributable x86 Setup.exe from your Navisworks BIN folder to the server and the example will work with 2012 NWD files.

              Enjoy!
