    Generic Annotations

I'm working on creating some annotations for egress drawings and was wondering if there was a way to create an annotation that has a field in which I can type in any number without it relating to any particular parameter.

For instance, I want to create an arrow indicating the total population of a room, but when two egress paths meet their population needs to be added together. Rather than try and create some tag which adds the populations of two rooms, I just want to make a "room population" tag which has a field in which I can put any number I need to.

Suggestions? Currently I've created a generic annotation but cannot find a way to make this field.

Sure. Make a new Shared Parameter, probably as an integer, (or reuse an existing one) in your GA file and you'll be able to change it to whatever you want it to without it being tied back to anything in particular.

So when I load the annotation into my project I will be able to edit the text in the annotation and not the room parameters?

So long as the parameter isn't tied to the room object. You did say this was a piece of Generic Annotation right?

I'd have several different types of annotation for what you're doing. One for the Room (though I'd use Areas instead of Rooms) and one that was Generic Annotation that didn't get tied to any object... actually, come to think of it, unless you've got plans to schedule this or the tag needs to look a certain way how about just using Text?

It's in a graphic arrow, which I would like to have be consistent.

So for some reason I am not able to import a shared parameter into my label, I can only create project parameters.

I've attached my file, basically I want to place this arrow as many times as I want and then just be able to change the text in the properties.

My bad. I was going from memory on that one.

Good news though - your fix is pretty simple. Make the Egress Population label an Instance parameter and you should be good to go (or at least it works on this end how I assume you want it to work).

                Awesome. Worked perfectly, thanks.
