You can create a new line catagory from the Object Styles and assign it a hidden line style. This should allow you to use a hidden line in your DC. 2011-11-15_0757 - Alex_Cunningham's library
I am not sure about making new styles. You might be able to get away with Transfer Project Standards from a project into your family. Might not be a good idea though.
I tend to agree. I was looking for a linetype the other day whilst doing a bit of family making, and all I had was one particular type. Maybe that type was assigned to that particular category, but why we you not have access in categories to line weights and styles that are quite neutral in their designation. I found it quite frustrating, and indicative of why Revit can be frustrating to non-gurus.
