is there a way to create a live floor slab with a notch? i need to start defining structure to this section and how this canopy joins with the floor

I'm pretty sure that you could use an in place void family, but if it's just for sections you could use the Cut Profile tool under View/Graphics/Cut Profile. -
You could possibly also use a Slab Edge--( can't tell what type of floor you are using?)Cliff B. Collins

Slab Edges should be best. BTW: do not (EVER) use in-place families (mostly), unless you want to add difficulties & unnecessary weight...Comment
