    trouble with BIM

    hi guys!
I write here, to make known that I came across an article the other day on web that talks about BIM and its infinite possibilities and new adoptions by the authorities.
I am an Italian architect, but we are still far from such a project, BIM for the institutions and then reflected to the whole world involved in the neighboring field of architecture ... and I think that since the laws impossible such an important project will be almost impossible! :banghead:

the article now is in my blog:

That article is from the AEC magazine, HERE - I got about a page into it last week then got very bored, very quickly. Personally, it's the kind of article we don't need.

      for me it's only information...
try from the small to stir the waters of an ocean that has paralyzed national Presenting a thousand, that not only are not enough, but every region of Italy has further domestic legislation, creating a maze of legislation very steep for those who tried, with a new activities, such students may be recent graduates....and above all, in italy the BIM is still a great unknown...

I agree. That article bored the pants of me too and I get the sense Martyn Day hasn't touched a 3D CAD or BIM package ever.

To me BIM has yet to be defined and I somewhat think it never will. One person's idea of BIM is not anothers and for that very reason I am truly suspicious when a client, government, organisation mandates BIM. The BIM contracts are never complete and are generally written by someone who hasn't been at the coal face of designing or utilising a 3D or BIM model.

For now, I'll do my own version of BIM. Until someone can come up with something that actually gives a full appreciation of skill level, varying BIM software, Level of Detail, Parametric requirements or non requirements, etc, etc, etc, etc I will do BIM in my own way to satisfy my own design, drawing production, schedule production, etc, requirements. At the end of the day I'm in business to make myself money - not someone else money.

I've been doing BIM since the mid 90's, long before there was such a word as BIM. I think the world is slowly getting pretty sick of this BIM uphoria....... which is more often than not ....... just uphoria.
