File Based Worksharing - Hardware Recomendation

    Dear Experts,

I am planing to order server or NAS to locate central files.

    Details:

    - Connection will be through LAN.

    - Number of users are upto 50 people.

    - File based Worksharing.

    Question:

    - What system are you suggesting? NAS or Server?

    - What minimum CPU should be?

    - What minimum RAM should you recommend.

    - Drive recommendation - SSD, HDD write read speed? IOPs requirement?

Its a bit tough for a bunch of Revit Users to make "recommendations" of the sort, because it also depends on a lot of other factors in your office.

    1. This is the ONLY on-prem storage? The company doesnt ALREADY have a File Server, NAS, SAN, or storage location? If not, where do they store everything else?
    2. CPU and RAM recommendations will depend on what else this device has to do. (See question 1)
    3. HD R/W and IOPS will ALSO depend on what else this device has to do.

I can tell you we have NAS storage at Parallax Team, and it works fine for File Based worksharing, from a single location (no multi location work). We have standard 7200RPM NAS Drives, and no SSD cache, but we did bump up the network interface of the NAS to be 10Gb. But, we also dont have anywhere near 50 people.

Still, how the Storage integrates with the rest of your IT footprint and architecture is going to be way more important than what people on RFO say they are using.
