    Navisworks - exporting search settings

I am having an issue when exporting search sets (I think they are called file sets in the english version) to XML

So I create some rules, I want to search for elements with a certain parameter and then create saved selection sets.
Then I would like to export the selection sets in the XML format and be able to re-use them in other projects, essentially import them.

The functionality is there but when I do my export the XML is 1kb and empty.

Has anyone run across this, what am I doing wrong here, or is this a bug or??

In my experience Selection Sets don't travel well - Selection Searches however...

Thanks Snowy, this was just enough information for me to find the error I was making.

So I was shown that once you set your search rules you click on "save selection" but the problem was that this can not be exported and is as you mentioned a "selection set"

I just tried this out clicking on the button "save search" and now actually I see the difference it is quite subtle but it is indicated in navisworks that you can export/import the "search set" and nowhere does it mention the "selection set"

IM not sure who told you to do that, but i would even be careful using *save selection* in Navisworks. The whol beauty/power of a Search Set is that it updates every time you use it. The Selection Set doesnt. Its dead and static. So if you update your model exports, and use a Selection Set, chances are you are missing elements.

Search Sets take longer to select becayse they are rerunning, but thats what makes them awesome.

Its like comparing Revit Filters to Revit Saved Selections.

Thanks Twice, yeah the power of youtube lessons and learning things myself.

I can see now and we were noticing that each time we had to update the selections when we made changes and were wondering where we were going wrong.

It makes sense logically, as a search set I can move from project to project even, but selections are project (and even version) specific. By version I mean that version of the model, not program version.
