    Schedule Totals

    I am currently scheduling structural framing, and I am trying to find out how I can get a grand total length of all beams in the project. I have 2 different types of C-Channel, but multiple lengths of each. I have the schedule formatted to sort by type and then by length, but I am looking to get a total length of all C-Channel of the same type. Is there a way to do this?

    Sounds like your schedule should already be doing that. Did you set your length to calculate totals?

      I should've been clearer, my apology. I want individual piece lengths, a count of each piece, as well as a total length (for each size). I can't make a calculated total with Count * Length.

          Yes this does help, thank you! Since I have my schedule sorted by Length as well, I have multiple instances of (ex: C12 X 20.7#), so I was looking to get the total combined length of both those, but I do not think it is possible, this will suffice though. Thanks again!

            Aaron's calculation from percentages might work for what you are looking to do. Essentially find the average length of all the pieces of one type and multiply it by the total number of said type.

              Just to clarify: What you see in the video is not finding the averages, and multiplying it out. Its using a percentage calculation to determine a given objects percentage of a larger total, and using that to "back the total value" in to a cell you can do calculations on, by multiplying by the inverse. Ekko Nap explained it in a thread called Total Mayhem. I just implemented it in my door library after the fact.

                You can do this quite easily by having a Calc Value (called Combined Length?) = Length and having 1 that colum of Combined Length set to Calculate Totals and the original Column of Length set to not Calculate Totals.

                Then Sort your schedule by Type and by Length and make sure to include a Footer and a Blank line after the Sort by Type Option. No Percentage Calcs required.
