    Topograpy modelisation

    Hello all,

I have a general question about the topography...

In order to model a Topography with detailed berms, roads with slopes etc, do you use the Revit or do you prefer to model the toposurface in another software (for example Civil 3D) and imported it after in Revit?

I am asking you because the 'tools' about toposurface that exist in Revit are limited. Also sometimes because of the Site Designer add-in the Revit crashes..

    Thank you in advance!

You have "Nailed it on the Head" so to speak
If you want awesome Topos - then Civil 3D will be the best port of call.

If you don't mind trying other methods - then search the form as there are more than 1 way to skin a topo

Site Designer is junk....uninstall it. landarchbim.com go here for tips

You can model quite well in Revit the topography...but for visualization only. If it will be used for construction, stick with Civil 3D...there are a lot better tools in there than Revit offers.

Do you mean with the Subregion tool? Just to design the surfaces of parking, roads etc?

          In the image below:

1st) It is a Roof which is created by 'Pick supports on beams ( Make Hardscape Follow Site Topography and Site Topography Follow Hardscape in Revit -- smoothy surface approach)

But the result is that the road is flat.

2nd) I used Pads with different slopes but the connection between them is not well.

          3rd) Subregion tool

If you want a good visualization result what tool do you use?

          Thank you in advance!

I don't use the subregion tool...ever. All my roads are roofs and I don't use the beam method either as more than likely there will be some cut and fill involved when placing a road. Once I have the footprint of my road I split out the toposurface and modify it to be underneath the road if any part of it is above the road. If I need to add fill then I just create a new toposurface. I've had up to 30 toposurfaces in one model, as it tends to slow down quite a bit if you try to create one massive surface.

Maybe now with railings being hosted to topo marcello's approach might be revised. Was a great watch.

Do you use the align tool in order to modify the toposurface to be underneath the road?

Why do you create new toposurface for the fills and dont edit the new toposurface that you have already? (after the graded region tool).

                Thank you in advance!

                  !
New construction vs Existing.. I can cheat too and copy my topo then change the phase to New Construction and modify accordingly. As for the points I tag my heights in 3D of the roads then modify the topo points to the bottom of the roof or floor I want to align to.

I find the graded tool confusing.
I just copy the existing in a new construction phase and voila a new topo to grade.
