    Learn programming revit

    Hello,

I want to learn programming Revit. First I want to begin with a simple macro. But I have a lot of questions. I'm a newbie about programming, but I would like to learn it. I hope someone can help me:

    Questions:

    1. If I program a macro in Revit. First thing I have to know, is about the existing elements or some specific items. And the library. Is it a list or overview with the describtion of these items or elements? I shall to program with vb.net or visual basic.
    2. How do I know about the syntaxis from all the items and elements from revit?
    3. Does someone tell me where I can find tutorials or online courses, so I can read some more about the possibilities?

    Thx,
    peter smith

Autodesk has a nice tutorial for getting started with programming on Revit.

My First Revit Plug-in Overview >> Lesson 1 >> Lesson 2 >> Lesson 3>> Lesson 4 >> Lesson 5 >> Lesson 6 >> Lesson 7 >> Lesson 8 Are you an Autodesk Revit power user with an interest in becoming even more productive? Would you like to automate or extend the capabilities of Revit, but are new to computer programming? If so, then this guide is designed for you. “My First Plug-in” is a self-paced tutorial guide for a smooth introduction into the programming world

another learning option is Michael Kilkelly's ArchSmarter classes. He has them on several topics including macros, Dynamo, and more. And they are very reasonably priced and can be used at your convenience.
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!

Thanks for the plug Dave! Peter, I created an easy tutorial to get you started writing Revit macros. You can see it here:

I have been using the ArchSmarter class "Dynamo for Busy People Part 1". He gives you pre-built Dynamo scripts for easy tasks which allows me use them for real work while trying to deconstruct them to learn more so I can create my own.

Specific to using Dynamo - attend the Monday session at AU2018 Las Vegas for an introduction and enough to get you moving.
