    rotation of hangers

    hey all,

first post on here i am looking for help on what may be a simple question. every hanger you select and try to rotate it starts the rotation off center, this is only a minor annoyance but when you have hundreds of hangers it adds up, and i would like to make it rotate on center instead of either re-centering the hanger or moving the rotation grip. i was wondering if anyone knows how to change the default rotation point of a family. maybe this is better posted somewhere else? i came here because we're a plumbing shop.

Without seeing the family it looks like it is modeled off center of parameters cause it to be off center.
In your family there should be 2 ref planes from which the cross point is the base point of the family. If you model the family in a way that the center of the 3D data is always the center of your family it should work.

here is what the floor plan of the family editor looks like. it looks like the reference lines are centered?

are you sure that the center vertical ref plane is actually the Center (Left/Right) plane that was in the family template??

i started after a coworker and he might've edited it but if he did he doesn't remember. how would i verify the center of the family template? this is a family that Sysque built so i dont have the original family/template they used for it.

click on that supposed center ref plane and it should look like this

If any DWG's were ever linked or imported in that may be what is setting it off center. Revit seems to remember origin points for some DWG's even though they are long gone.

But I'd try pulling in those reference planes closer to the modeled element and make a lot of them "not a reference" if they don't need to be. It may be centering off of the reference planes instead of the modeled element.

My understanding is that the center of rotation is always the geometric center of the family, including the origin. Possibly there is something off center but hidden? Is that made by a third party - looks a bit like a SysQue hanger? If so, maybe ask them to update the content. Personally I'd like to have a flip control instead of rotation, that way it's one click.
