    Can't change temporary dimensions

    Hi there,

I'm having a persistent issue which is making my studies almost impossible. When attempting to change Temporary Dimensions between walls I get the following message - Can't change dimension segment to this value.

I have searched high and low for a solution, but although there seems to be much complaint about it, no one seems to have an answer. If you do I would love to test it out.

In the example below I was attempting to change the value from 6' - 3 15/16" to 8'

    Thanks.

Do you have any other Dimensions Locked?
Using Dimension Locks in the project environment is almost always going to eventually cause problems like this.
I've also seen that error when the dimension ends up trying to change the width if a Wall rather than moving the entire wall.

      Thanks Dave,
Unfortunately not. I am using a Mac though, running the latest version of VMWARE Fusion, and I'm hoping that is the problem as I have a new PC arriving in the next couple of days, and I can't wait to see the back of this thing. I don't think that is the problem though, as others have had this issue on regular PCs.
      We'll see

Use Reveal Constraints to see if any exist. Can you enter a smaller value?

No joy I'm afraid. Reveal Constraints has no effect, and I am unable to enter a smaller value

Ah Ha! Ive found it. The number pad is the culprit. It seems that running the program from within VMWARE on a Mac, event though you can input a value, when you hit return nothing it returns to its original dimensions. It's a pain, but by no means as excruciating as it was before.

It's probably because when you "move in" to a virtual machine, the Number Lock turns off, so you aren't typing any numbers.

When I go in to VM's in VMware Horizon, my number lock key ends up backwards for the VM (light is on for the keyboard but it's off for the VM). Hitting number lock again while in the VM solves it.

Sent from my Phablet. Please excuse typos... and bad ideas.

Cool, good to know and thanks for checking back in. Revit not working as expected is, as you've discovered, often something subtle external to it...

Thank you! Most modern keyboards for the Mac no longer have a Num Lock key, but they do have a Clear key in the same spot. Guess what? It does the job. We all know what a difference a number pad makes. Thanks again.
