Tagging Elements - keep tag visible but have element hidden

I've got a requirement to provide head and sill levels of openings created by windows/doors etc... in metal frame walls so that I can give that info to the manufacturer however, I don't want to see the window or door families if possible. Ideally the view will show only these walls, their openings and the different tag families for each category which will be identical in appearance. I've mocked up a tag for my windows (which are generic model families), it tags fine however when I apply a filter to hide the windows, the tag also disappears.

    Any suggestions how overcome this?

Turn off doors/windows and use spot elevations on the head/sill of the wall opening?
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people

      Hey Elton,

I didn't consider that tool (forgot it had options on the bar) but have just tested and though I click on the opening in the wall, it reports the top and base of the wall (These walls are modelled per level as they would be built and installed). Looks like I'm just gonna have to have the windows and doors visible.

How about making a type that hides everything but something insignificant like a line that is coincident with an adjacent object?

          Schedule it?

I get what you are suggesting but I simply don't have the time start modifying existing families as this info has to get out ASAP. Worth investigating when I have the time.

If the geometry is all sub-categorized (it should be, i would hope), just turn off the subcats. The *window family* is still there, in that case. Or, if its built out of shared nested families, set up a Filter that only turns off the Nested Components (which is all of the geometry). Both methods work just fine.

Also, Spot Elevation WILL work on the sill and head of the hole that a Window or GM calls out. If its not working, check the settings you have picked in the option bar when you use it.

No, I've not set up any sub categories yet for these Generic Model window families yet as I haven't yet had any requirement to do so thus far however perhaps this is one reason to do so. No shared components in these, they were quickly put together to try and meet crazy deadlines and I will be recreating much better ones when I get the time.

I've tried all settings and tab selecting the wall and opening. The only setting which reports a correct value is Actual (Selected) Elevation which works fine for the Sill but is unable to grab the head.
