is there a way to do sheet references similar to how you do a view reference?

it would be nice if it was possible to do sheet references (for notes) and am wondering if this is in revit and I just haven't discovered it yet or if others have figured out some work-around? or do it the old fashioned way.

To my knowledge there is not a way to do a sheet reference.

One way to achieve what you're talking about would be to put the notes in drafting view, put the drafting view on a sheet, and then create a view reference that only contains the sheet number, rather than the detail number + sheet number.

That said, I'm not sure if that is really a workflow that makes sense to adopt... have you investigated keynoting or note blocks as a way to achieve the desired end?

There is a way to do a reference that's not part of the text block. Under the view tab under sheet composition there is the button "view reference". It's nowhere near as good as it should be but it does exist

open the OOTB view reference family, SaveAs, and change the label text to match the height, width, and style of your project text. In the project type your text and where the view ref goes create some spaces and create the view ref there. Takes a little bit of tweaking but when done group the text and view ref so they don't get separated. If you don't want the detail number just delete that label in the family (and delete the slash). Granted, not the most in tune way to create a reference but it beats the heck out of having to keep track of text detail references!
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!

A 3rd Party tool called Auto-Link from Revolution Design tackles linked relationships. You still type a value like A1/A401 in within text, for example, and the Auto-Link tool recognizes that as a reference to a view/sheet. Check out their Details or watch the VIDEO.
