    M & P Links

I have had the same issue happen a few times and just ignored it and it seems random. We are a mechanical contractor and when I get Revit models I copy the M & P models to use as my working models. I like to link in the originals and leave them in a closed workset. The weird thing is that sometimes it will not let me link in the original model and gives me an error that the linked model is the same as the current model. Is there a way to fix this?

So your model has the same GUID as the MEP model?
Do you just copy/rename the file before you start using it? Or open it with Detach from Central and then save as a new file?
If you do that you shouldnt have this problem.

I have just been coping/pasting it in the file location. So if I open it and do a Save As it should work to link back in? I never know what I am being sent from the engineer, sometimes it is a detached model, just a copy of the central, I just never know.

I always do detach and save as central, partly because we put them on a revit server, but also because it cleans up temporary stuff and reduces the size a bit.
If use Reload From you should be able to re-link without any problems.

I will try that out. I do have to use the Reload From every time anyway, and I haven't had any problems in that area.

I was able to get the Original Mech Project loaded into my working project. The weird thing now is that it is only showing up when I have the Plumbing Workset turned on. I can put the Original Mech on any other Workset and have it turned on but as soon as I turn the Plumbing Workset off it hides the Original Mech link. I am really confused by this.

You can put (multiple) placed instances of a link in (different) worksets if you wish, but the link 'Type', or linked file, itself is also in a workset.
Go to the links at the bottom of the project browser, select Type Properties. The linked model itself, rather than its placed instances, is probably in the plumbing workset too...

(For example I worked on a datacentre project with 10 identical buildings. It was 1 link, placed multiple times, with worksets for the different buildings)

Thank you. That was the problem.
